About

I stumbled across this tree and once upon a time, whole boulder in Massachusetts. I had this thought that begged to be written down…Ever stop and think how miraculous it is that you’ve made it this far? I mean, you’re still kickin, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this. Seriously, surviving childhood, intact, is worthy of an award. Like a medal of honor, of survival, a badge of courage – that level of award. Could we have been guided? riding on the wings of some unseen force? Were we saved? rescued? Maybe. Maybe our survival instincts kicked in and we pushed through the seemingly impossible. Like a tree that breaks through solid rock, on a mission to reach the promise of warmth and loving embrace of the sun. You do the same, against all odds, and now you’re finally adulting. Feeling wise, responsible and productive – seemingly safe and insulated from the traumas that dampened your light as a child.  Now THAT sounds incredibly cozy… but why do you still feel the weight of all that is unspoken?

A Fish Named Karen is a gathering of memoirs inviting you to consider and celebrate the power of the human spirit despite the traumas of our past. The freedom to be who we came here to be. Experimenting with living curious, heartful, present, reflective lives ANYWAYS. ANYWAYS. The unspoken truth in us is longing to be expressed. It wants out. Wants to be seen, heard and validated. Despite the darkness we can be real, raw and thriving. There is life after childhood abuse. A beautiful one. Follow me. Play with me… on the raw edge of existence.

  1. Where is this nifty boulder? There are so many places in the Northeast I should probably see at some point, but I never find enough time to venture outside of cities. Also, I need local cool things because the ridiculous non-Northeastern location I grew up in still manages to be horrible in the present too often and suck all my money. I need to learn to appreciate the relatively free and/or cheap cool sites of the many states within a six-hour drive of each other. My Partner and I keep saying we’re going to go rent a car and take a trip to some seaside town (maybe even something cliche like The Hamptons) or a ski resort in Vermont or one of those places where the leaves turn in Fall and people rent B&Bs to watch.

    1. Unfortunately this was in a park in Massachusetts maybe a town called Norton or Mansfield. It’s not a well known attraction. Just a naturally occurring tree/boulder. I just happened upon it. When you come to the NorthEast – def stay in Vt maybe Wilmington (lovely bed & Breakfasts or Bellows Falls – with foliage train. New Hampshire – Hampton Beach is nice. CT – North of Hartford is lovely with many charming Bed & Breakfasts. Ct South of New Haven anything along the coast -amazing shoreline and B&B’s. Massachusetts- Cape Cod is amazing.

    1. Thank-you Beth. Your name is dear to my heart 😏. I’m glad my attitude has carried through in my writing. My eyes weren’t always this open. Spent many years in anger and fear. All necessary. Turned out well, I think ✌️

        1. It has been an amazing journey. A journey that will continue with more lessons, a greater respect for both the light and dark I am yet to experience. These experiences deepen our understanding of why we are here and how to return to our original self, our original medicine 😘. I appreciate your presence with me on this brand new day.
